July 2007

Hello everyone!
Well, the summer is well on its way now, although here in the UK so far it has literally been a washout with the wettest June since 1914. However it has not stopped the festival fans and did anyone see The Who at Glastonbury? I saw them on the T.V. although it was torrential rain they were superb, not normally my cup of tea but they were immaculate; I must say Zach Starkey on drums was the business.
My friend said that Donington was excellent this year with 3 stages and tons of bands. Although for him Machine Head were the best band. I have the new album but have not played it yet.
I expect many of you will look forward to travelling this summer whether it will be to a festival or to some sunny place. For me a good holiday would be not to travel a single inch, as much as I love to explore places sometimes. Especially these days airports can take their toll if you fly virtually every day. There was once a day when it used to be a good laugh, I remember one time in the middle of a tour in the USA we would pack our cases the night before and send them over night with the bus just retaining what we needed the next day, but one night I was already in my bath robe when the bell boy knocked the door for the cases, so next day I woke up to get dressed to catch the flight only to find that I had packed my trousers. Then the tour manager (who shall remain nameless) called me to leave the hotel, so I told him what I had done, of course it went round fast to the guys and of course I was the laughing stock. The manager had to run out to buy me some pants so what did he come back with, yes the widest bell bottoms you ever saw and they were about 18 inches too long. Remember this was in the eighties when tight spandex was more the trend, I swear to this day that my friend the tour manager did it just to teach me a lesson. Anyway I guess it worked because it was the last time I let go of my pants.
I would like to thank everyone for keeping me busy answering letters last month, please do not be shy to send in a photo as it may help me to remember you if we met.
Jari has turned me on to a band called Kamelot, a funky name I know. They are not exactly metal but excellent musicians a bit like Dream Theater but they have their own style also in there too. Both Jari and myself were wondering why we had not any previous knowledge of them, they must be the worlds best most secret band. Though no doubt in some countries they must have a strong following.
To you all thanks for dropping in at the mill and I wish you all a great Metal summer!
Regards, K.K.
