LORDI
BABEZ FOR BREAKFAST
(SONY 2010)

REVIEW BY PETE ALANDER / FEBRUARY 2011

Lordi has come a long way from early attempts to find a record company to win the Eurovision song contest. With “Hard Rock Hallelujah” blasting the sh*t out of all the usual and generic Eurovision songs Lordi proved the power of melodic heavy metal. Now Lordi has released their fifth album “Babez for Breakfast”. With Michael Wagener as producer and special guest Bruce Kulick playing guitars on “Call off the Wedding” Lordi keeps pushing their monster metal to the fans around the world.

Album starts with the usual intro and the title track proves this album to be  a bit more aggressive than previous ones. Lyrics are much dirtier, eating babies and sluts are not the usual lunch I have at work. Just on special occasions... Guitar work on the entire album works really well mixing up the sounds from the “oh so lovely” 80´s metal to the sound of this century. Same thing with the melodies. I´ve always liked the way Lordi songs have nice melody mixed with raw sound. Choruses has always been the best bet with this band. This album is not an exception to that formula.

Personally the title track, “This is Heavy Metal”, “Give Your Life for Rock n Roll”, and “Call off the Wedding” are the standout tracks in this album. If you are looking for a killer album to listen with bunch of beer drinking friends, choose Lordi or stay home.
